Judge Gloria E. Lopez is the presiding judge with Judge Ryan Salfiti serving as her associate. Judge Gloria Lopez was elected after the 2018 democratic sweep of Harris County Texas. I am pretty sure that I was one of the first motions that was tried in her court, as I had a motion for new trial set on January 2nd 2019 for which we tried. Judge Lopez generally is patient, and does not pick up your cell phone if it rings in the court. But also Judge Lopez has continued with most of her settings via zoom, which allows you to save trip to the Courthouse.
Uncontested cases maybe proven up up via affidavit and is encouraged. Docket is called at 9 am. On Tuesdays. Docket call in this court is rarely, if ever, late. Mediation is required before temporary orders where custody is at issue or a complex property case and in all cases before final trial. For temporary orders parties are given 45 minutes a side to present their case for cases with no children and then 1.5 hours a side if children are involved. Parenting classes are not enforced in this Court but I would suggest to have taken the parenting class if custody is at issue at the start of your case.
