He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Houston Bar Association, the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS), the Associated Security Services & Investigators of the State of Texas (ASSIST), the Cámara de Empresarios Latinos de Houston and is admitted to practice in the Federal Courts in the Southern District of Texas.
Carlos enlisted in the United States Navy as a yeoman from 1974-1976, returning to military service in the United States Army serving in the Judge Advocates Generals Corps (J.A.G.) from 1981-1984 and in the Army Reserves from 1985-1989.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Political Science from Washington & Lee University in 1978. He graduated from the University of Richmond (the TC Williams School of Law) in 1981.
Carlos has a background as varied and international as Houston and the great state of Texas. His father, Eduardo, was born in Progreso, Yucatan, in Mexico. Eduardo was a career soldier in the United States Army, serving as a 19 year old Mexican resident alien in the 101st Airborne Division at Bastogne, Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. Carlos is extremely proud that his Dad was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star with Valor for his service in World War II.
His mother, Dean, was born in Lone Oak, Kentucky, near Paducah. She married Eduardo at age 18 and soon found herself far away in Taipei, Taiwan, where Eduardo was stationed to train Nationalist Chinese Army soldiers in anti-tank weaponry. That is where Carlos was born. As a result of being part of an Army family (Army kids affectionately refer to themselves as “Army brats”), Carlos lived in Vietnam for three years (1959-1962), including kindergarten and first grade, and in the Panama Canal Zone (1967-1969) Carlos’ wife Angela is from Honduras and nicely rounds out the international flavor to Carlos’ unique family background. They have a son together and Carlos has two other sons from a previous marriage.

Michael S. Rojas, Licensed in Texas and in Mexico
Michael S. Rojas, has over 25 jury verdicts and is one of very few Texas attorneys who have a dual license to practice law in Mexico and in Texas. He is a member of the American Immigration Lawyer’s Association and of the Family Law Section for the State Bar of Texas, the Cámara de Empresarios Latinos de Houston and is admitted to practice in Texas, the Federal Southern District of Texas, and in the country of Mexico.
Michael received his Bachelor of Arts degree with honors in Political Science from the University of Houston. He then attended South Texas College of Law and graduated in the Spring of 1999.
While in law school in Houston, Michael lived and worked in Mexico during the summers of 1997 and 1998. This unique experience allowed him to learn, apply and appreciate the business and legal culture of Mexico in a way that would have never been possible otherwise. The seed for further formal study in Mexico was planted at this time.
After graduating from South Texas College of Law in 1999, Michael was placed on the fast track of insurance defense litigation by being in charge of a docket that always required him in jury trials. Here, Michael learned the “ins and outs” of what it means to try a case from beginning to end. This allowed him to try other cases regarding his true interest of international matters, such as, International Child Abduction issues under the Hague Convention in federal court as well as family legal issues pertaining to cross-border jurisdictional and substantive issues.
His mother, Maria del Carmen Rojas, was born in Camaguey, Cuba. She arrived from Cuba after Fidel Castro assumed power in 1961. She graduated high school in 1965 in San Antonio and married Alfred Schaefer, a High School Spanish and English Teacher, in 1969. She became a U.S. citizen at age 23. Michael was born in 1971 to Alfred and Carmen Schaefer in San Antonio, Texas. Michael married his wife in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico in 1999. His wife is now a U.S. citizen. They have two children born of the marriage and Michael has another daughter from a previous relationship.
